🔒 Password Protect PDF
Encrypt your PDF with AES-256 encryption to secure sensitive information. The encrypted PDF can be decrypted by uploading it back here with your password.
🔒 Military-Grade Encryption: Your PDF will be encrypted with AES-256 (same encryption used by banks and military). All processing happens in your browser - your files never leave your device.
📥 To Decrypt an Encrypted PDF:
If you have an encrypted PDF (starts with "protected_"), simply:
- Upload the encrypted PDF file above
- Enter the password you used to encrypt it
- Click the decrypt button that will appear
How It Works
Our PDF encryption tool uses AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard with 256-bit keys), the same military-grade encryption used by governments and financial institutions worldwide. Your PDF is encrypted entirely in your browser - no data is ever uploaded to our servers.
Encryption Process
- Password Derivation: Your password is converted to a 256-bit encryption key using PBKDF2 with 100,000 iterations
- PDF Encryption: The entire PDF is encrypted using AES-256-GCM with a unique initialization vector
- Secure Storage: The encrypted data is embedded in a protected PDF file that can only be decrypted with the correct password
Decryption Process
- Upload your encrypted .enc file
- Enter the password you used during encryption
- Click "Decrypt PDF" to download the original PDF
Security Features
- AES-256 Encryption: Military-grade encryption standard
- PBKDF2 Key Derivation: 100,000 iterations protect against brute-force attacks
- Unique Salt & IV: Each encryption uses random values for maximum security
- Client-Side Processing: All encryption happens in your browser - zero server uploads
- No Password Recovery: Passwords cannot be recovered - keep them safe!
Security Best Practices
- Use passwords with at least 12 characters including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
- Avoid common words, phrases, or personal information
- Use different passwords for different documents
- Store passwords securely using a password manager like 1Password or Bitwarden
- Keep backup copies of important encrypted files
- Test decryption immediately after encryption to verify your password works
